Germany Economy

Hey guys,
I would like to share with you an article in The New York Times. It talks about the economy in Germany. According to this article, the German Prime Minister, Angela Merkel, is promoting a economy packege to help business and boost economy through a reduction in taxes. This is very unusual for Gemans. They are seen in Eurepe as the model of traditional conservatism when it comes to talk about economics. They, always, have privileged savings and higher taxes when there exists a deficil in the government budget. This time, the government is traying to do something similiar to what U.S. did for its economy a year ago. There are many Germans that are not confortable with this idea; however, its interesting to see how the currents crisis is pushing governments to think on non-traditional ways to solve the world economic crisis.

Also, I would like to say thank you! to all of you for reading and comment my posts. I think this has been a great opportunity to learn something new (in my case) and I hope all of us can use and take advantage of this internet tool that can improve future businesses. Good luck to everyone.

Health care reform

This last Nov 7, the house of representatives approved the Obamas' Health care plan. A total of 220 representatives voted in favor and 215 against the reform. The fact is that Obamas' Administration won a political battle in the Congress. Now the final dicussion and decision is in the Senate. It seems that is going to be very difficult to pass the 1.1 trillion reform to health care system in U.S., but the debate is there.
Certainly, this is a very polemic topic for north americans; however, I would like to highlight one of the principal values of democracy, tolerance. Either way the health care reform ends, I think that democracy will win at the end. This has to be point out because in an intent to reform health care in U.S. for the last 75 years, I think that the only winner is the people and the democracy that proves once again is the only sistem that garanty everybody rights.

Halloween parties

I would like to comment about the halloween parties on this last weekend. It seems that, as every year, halloween college student parties were very big. I could go to a couple of parties during the weekend and what you can see mostly everywhere is a lot of alcohol and preaty much a lot of drunk people who causes a lot of damages. For example, in one party one gay was so drunk that broke a window that ended over a car that was parked on the street. Luckly, there were any consecuences besides the monetary costs.
I think that in many causes there are no control from students themselves. This is very sad since it is supposed that college students are getting an education and therefore it is expected they to react as educated people that are aware of dangers and are responsible for their actions. It was sad, for instance, to see many students completly drunk asleep throwed up over the halls of houses. I think that there should be more control over the parties not only from authorities and also from the students themselves trying to not lose consciousness about the situation.

Concerning econ test

Concerning microecon test... I have to say that I have been studying for the last week and its seems that the test is not going to be easy. Actually, the theory is not really hard to understand nor long, but it is the way that Dr. Borland likes to teach. It is just too much wordly. I mean, he uses a lot of words to try to explain the dynamics of the theory, but he almost never uses numbers to explain the exersices. I think it would be a lot easier if there is formulas and numbers that explain the exercises. Another thing that is very bad is the graphics. They dont even have a tittle that explain the theory involved in the exercises. I think those need to be improved in order to be more didactic. Well, anyway. Good luck everyone in the test!

Microeconomic class

hey guys,.. Here is an issue about the education system that we discussed a couple of weeks ago. It seems that professor Borland does not agree with the idea of giving free education to north Americans. Well, this can be understood if you only take in account the monetary benefits from giving free money as a subsidy instead to offer free education. To me the topic is very interesting and its a classic point of debate in politics and economics.
Well, I have to say that I agree with the free education idea and I will give you my reasons. First, even if this kind of subsidy is less effective and more expensive than give money to people, I think that unless the government provides free education to students they are going to spend this money in other things (thinks that give them more utility according to the indifference curves). As far as I remember we discussed this topic last semester in Public Policy Economics class with professor Goff and we concluded that from the economic theory view point it is not very effective, however, it assures in some how that young people go to school instead of spend the money in other things. Second, about the argument that the students are less productive if they receive free education, I think that this can be measured and compared with another systems. For instance, most of the European countries have free education systems even at the university level and they have been able to achieve great achievements in all the areas of sciences.
Therefore, I think that a free education system is the most fair way to redistribute the wealth among the society even if it is not the most effective economically speaking.

As I was watching President Obama address to the Congress about his health care plan reform, I could not let pass the opportunity to comment about his great capability as a speaker. Regardless the advantages or disadvantages of his plan, it is clear that the Presidency of the U.S. has a very intelligent and persuasive person working in the main office of the White House. For instance, it can be counted the number of times that President Obama was applauded during his speech. Certainly, President Obama is able to join the majority of the people, including congressmen and senators, around the same topic, even when there are particular individuals that do not understand the moment that the nation lives, and show a lack of patriotism through misplaced comments that only indicates particular interests.
